At a chain store, staff rotate. Training is standardized. The person behind the counter may have been there three weeks and is reading from the same product sheet you can find online.
At an independent shop, staff tend to stay longer and actually know the products — because they use them, because they care, and because the owner is often two feet away. You get a real recommendation, not a scripted one.
Selection decisions
Chain stores order based on corporate buying decisions made by someone in an office who has never visited your city. Independent stores order based on what their actual customers are asking for and what’s moving.

Both options are legal and licensed. But if you want real service from people who know what they’re selling and actually care whether you come back — an independent shop is the better call.
