Every legal cannabis product sold in Ontario carries a standardized label required by Health Canada. Knowing what to look for makes it easier to compare products and shop with confidence.

The excise stamp

Look for the yellow provincial excise stamp on the package. This confirms the product was produced by a federally licensed producer and taxed accordingly. A product without this stamp is not legal for sale in Ontario.

THC and CBD content

Labels list THC and CBD content as a percentage for flower, or in milligrams for edibles, oils, and beverages. For dried flower, you’ll typically see a range reflecting natural variation between batches.

Net weight or volume

This tells you exactly how much product is in the package: grams for flower and pre-rolls, or millilitres and milligrams for oils, beverages, and edibles.

Licensed producer information

Every label identifies the licensed producer, including a lot number and packaging date, which matters for freshness and traceability.

Recommended storage and expiry

Most labels include storage guidance, such as cool, dark, and airtight, along with either an expiry or best-before date.

Health Canada warnings

By law, all cannabis packaging includes standardized health warning messages. These are federally mandated and appear on every legal product, regardless of retailer.

Understanding your label helps you compare products across brands and formats. If you have questions about a specific label while you’re in store, our staff at 6134 Main Street in Stouffville are happy to walk you through it.
