In Ontario, the legal possession limit for adults is 30 grams of dried cannabis (or equivalent) in public. This also applies to how much you can purchase in a single transaction from a licensed retailer.
What counts as 30 grams?
Health Canada sets equivalency factors for different product types:
- 1 gram dried flower = 1 gram
- 1 gram of cannabis oil = 0.2 grams dried equivalent
- 1 cannabis edible (up to 10mg THC) = 1 gram dried equivalent
- 1 gram of concentrate = 0.25 grams dried equivalent
- 1 cannabis beverage (up to 10mg THC) = 0.4 grams dried equivalent
In practice, most customers purchasing a reasonable personal supply stay well within the 30-gram limit.
At home, the limit is different
At your private residence, you may legally possess more than 30 grams. The 30-gram limit applies to public spaces — not your home.
